PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE
Preventive Dental Care
While visiting a dentist regularly is important, there are other things you can do to keep teeth healthy. This preventive care is important in reducing the risk of developing serious oral health issues that can seriously damage to your mouth. The goal of preventive care is to protect your smile. If you don’t brush, floss or see your dentist regularly, you could develop tooth decay, periodontal disease (more commonly known as gum disease), and even tooth loss. A full set of teeth can help you eat and speak at optimal levels.
For these reasons, we want to prevent tooth loss and damage to our teeth. Dr. Jamil Sowan and our team at Pop Smiles Dentistry offers various preventive dental treatments to keep your smile as healthy as possible. Dental cleanings, dental sealants, and fluoride treatments are just some of the services we offer.
By seeing our dentist regularly, we can detect early signs of damage and treat them before they become more painful. We are strong advocates of preventive care because it is easier to prevent a problem or stop it from developing than it is to deal with the damage. If you require root canals or tooth extractions, then you have gone beyond preventive dental care. Restoring your smile is much harder at this point. Don’t let your teeth become unhealthy. How to Prevent Dental Problems
While most people have experienced cavities in their lifetime, this does mean you have to have them, too. There are several things you can do at home to prevent cavities and tooth decay. Reduce your risk of developing cavities and other serious oral health issues by doing the following:
- Brush and floss your teeth every day. You should brush at least twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Make sure you are brushing gently, as rough brushing will wear off the enamel from your teeth. Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride to strengthen teeth. Also, floss daily to remove debris stuck in between teeth. The best time to floss is at night after you are done eating for the day.
- Eat healthy. Maintain a healthy diet complete with fruits and vegetables. Limit consumption of sugary or acidic foods.
- Visit your dentist regularly. Schedule routine teeth cleanings and dental exams. Our office recommends visits every six months.
- Consider fluoride treatments and dental sealants. Dental sealants and fluoride can strengthen teeth and reduce the risk of cavities. Ask your dentist about these treatments.
